The young victim has been identified as Lavanya, the daughter of Keralinga.
The incident occurred fifteen days ago when a group of seven children, including Lavanya, were playing in the village and were viciously attacked by a stray dog. Lavanya sustained severe bites on the back of her neck and other parts of her body during the ordeal.
Following the attack, Lavanya was rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, she was discharged two days ago and was receiving further care at her home. Tragically, she could not overcome her injuries and passed away. The other children who were also attacked by the dog are still undergoing treatment.
Speaking about the incident, Keralinga, Lavanya’s father, revealed that his daughter was attacked right in front of their residence. He called on the authorities to take immediate action to prevent similar incidents from befalling other children in the village.
Expressing their concerns, villagers shared that despite the tragic event, no officials have visited the village to inquire about the affected children. The dog responsible for the attacks was swiftly dealt with by the villagers on the same day.
Providing insight into the situation, Kariyappa, the Panchayat Development Officer of Samagakunta village, disclosed that he was informed about the incident on Tuesday and assured that a visit to the village would be arranged. He also mentioned plans to dispatch a rescue team to address the issue of stray dogs posing a threat to the community.
“Reports suggest that the dog in question was not native to the area and had strayed from a different region. It is believed that while passing through the village, it launched the attack on the children,” Kariyappa explained.
The villagers expressed their frustration and disappointment at what they perceive as negligence on the part of the authorities in handling the situation promptly.
