Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Henrico, Virginia, are reeling from a devastating car crash that took the lives of two 16-year-old boys and left an 18-year-old driver fighting for his life in hospital. The incident, which occurred on Saturday night along Hockett Road near Tuckahoe Creek Parkway in Goochland County, is believed to have been caused by speeding.

According to Virginia State Police, the driver, identified as 18-year-old Kyle Alexander Haden, was speeding in a 2011 BMW 550i when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. The impact was so severe that the car split in two, with debris scattered over a 100-foot radius.

Family members of the victims have claimed that the car was travelling at around 100 miles per hour, nearly double the posted speed limit of 55 mph. Haden, who was the only occupant wearing a seat belt, sustained critical injuries and is currently fighting for his life in hospital.

Tragically, two 16-year-old boys, Aiden Schmidt and Joseph Castro, lost their lives at the scene of the crash. Both students were in the 10th grade at J.R. Tucker High School, as confirmed by the school’s principal in a letter to families.

Community Mourns the Loss of Young Lives

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, a memorial has been set up at the crash site, where family members and friends continue to gather to pay their respects. Castro’s mother, aunt, and other loved ones visited the scene on Monday, expressing their profound grief and disbelief over the sudden loss.

Castro’s aunt, Mia Rodriguez, spoke of her sister’s heartbreak at the loss of her son, highlighting his infectious smile and positive spirit. She recounted how Castro had returned home that evening before going out to meet his friends, never imagining it would be their last gathering.

Rodriguez emphasised the need for parents and families to have open conversations with their children about the consequences of reckless driving, urging them to cherish the moments they have with their loved ones.

Neighbours Call for Safer Roads

Residents in the Goochland area have raised concerns about the safety of Hockett Road, a winding stretch with no traffic lights and poor visibility at night. Many have called for a reduction in the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph to prevent future tragedies.

One resident, Susan White, who lives near the crash site, described the harrowing moment when she heard the impact but could not see anything due to the darkness. She expressed frustration over the recurring accidents in the area and stressed the importance of drivers exercising caution on the roads.

As the investigation into the crash continues, the community remains in mourning, with the school offering counselling support to students and staff affected by the loss. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of reckless driving.
