In Henrico, Virginia, a tragic car crash claimed the lives of two 16-year-old boys and left the 18-year-old driver in critical condition. The incident, which took place on Hockett Road near Tuckahoe Creek Parkway in Goochland County, is believed to have been caused by speeding, according to authorities.

Speeding Factor in Fatal Crash

Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash late on Saturday night. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Kyle Alexander Haden, was reportedly speeding in a 2011 BMW 550i when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. Family members have claimed that the car was travelling at around 100 miles per hour, nearly double the 55 mph speed limit in the area.

Tragic Loss of Lives

The crash resulted in the deaths of two 16-year-old boys, Aiden Schmidt and Joseph Castro, both 10th graders at J.R. Tucker High School. The principal of the school expressed deep sorrow in a letter to families, acknowledging the traumatic impact of losing friends and classmates.

Heartbreaking Scene

A memorial has been set up at the crash site, where grieving families and friends continue to pay their respects. Castro’s mother, aunt, and brother visited the scene, clinging to hope and memories of their beloved son and nephew.

Community Support

Neighbours in the Goochland area have rallied around the families affected by the tragedy, calling for improved traffic safety measures on Hockett Road. The community is united in grief and solidarity, hoping to prevent future accidents on the winding and poorly lit road.

Investigation and Support

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it remains uncertain if charges will be filed. Meanwhile, the school has announced that counselling services will be available to students and staff throughout the week to provide emotional support during this difficult time.
