Kexin Cai : “Dartmouth Student Kexin Cai Found Dead”

On a somber note, Lebanon police announced late Monday that a Dartmouth College graduate student, Kexin Cai, was found dead in the Connecticut River. The 26-year-old had gone missing last Wednesday, sparking an active search effort in the area.

Search Efforts and Discovery

Investigators were able to obtain video footage from two different businesses showing Cai on her e-bike, travelling towards West Lebanon on NH Route 10 at approximately 6 p.m. on the day of her disappearance. A driver later spotted what they believed to be Cai’s bike in the Boston Lot Conservation Area, narrowing down the search area.

It wasn’t until around 4 p.m. on Monday that a fisherman reported seeing something along the Connecticut River in Windsor, Vermont. First responders were able to locate Cai’s body and bring it to shore by 5:36 p.m.

Prior to the discovery of Cai’s body, her partner, Kristian Droste, shared touching words about her character and personality. He described her as a loving and kind individual, highlighting her infectious laugh, musical talents, loyalty to family and loved ones, and appreciation for nature’s beauty.

Meanwhile, a friend of Cai mentioned that a group of approximately 30 members from the Dartmouth College community joined in the search efforts near the conservation area. The collective support and solidarity demonstrated the impact Cai had on those around her.
