Three individuals were apprehended in Herkimer on Monday, May 20, in connection with a fraudulent scheme that spanned from New York City to Buffalo. The suspects, identified as Kelly Arrigo, Jason Arzu, and Jordan Arzu, were arrested by Herkimer Police after attempting to make a withdrawal using a forged driver’s license at Woodforest Bank in the village of Herkimer.
Attempted Fraud at Woodforest Bank
The incident unfolded at around 6 PM when authorities responded to a call regarding a woman, later identified as Kelly Arrigo from Brooklyn, who was trying to withdraw money with a fake driver’s license. Arrigo was swiftly taken into custody, while her two male companions, Jason and Jordan Arzu from the Bronx, were apprehended near their vehicle at the Arc Goods Store in close proximity to the Wal-Mart.
Multi-State Fraudulent Enterprise
Further investigations revealed that the trio had made a stop in Herkimer en route to Buffalo, where they planned to execute fraudulent activities at various banking institutions. It transpired that the suspects were part of a criminal network that engaged in identity theft and fraud across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
Additional scrutiny into the backgrounds of the suspects uncovered Kelly Arrigo’s extensive criminal history in the area, while Jason Arzu was found to have an ongoing forgery and identity theft case in Pennsylvania for which he was out on bail. Jordan Arzu was also connected to an open weapons case in New York City.
Charges and Detainment
All three individuals have been charged with second-degree Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, fourth-degree Attempted Grand Larceny, and fifth-degree Conspiracy. They have been remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility on a $10,000 cash bail and $20,000 bond. Herkimer Police have indicated that further charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
