HERKIMER, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A planned fraud attempt spanning from New York City to Buffalo was foiled in Herkimer on Monday, May 20, resulting in the arrest of three individuals by the Herkimer Police Department.

Authorities were alerted to the suspicious activity at the Woodforest Bank located within the Wal-Mart in the village of Herkimer at approximately 6 PM. The incident involved a woman, later identified as Kelly Arrigo, 49, from Brooklyn, who was attempting to withdraw funds using a forged driver’s license. Arrigo was promptly taken into custody by law enforcement officers.

Following Arrigo’s apprehension, two male companions, identified as Jason and Jordan Arzu, both 24 years old from the Bronx, were found near their vehicle in the vicinity of the Arc Goods Store, a short distance from the Wal-Mart. The Arzu brothers were also taken into custody without incident.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the trio had made a stop in Herkimer en route to Buffalo, where they intended to carry out fraudulent activities at various banking institutions along the way. It was uncovered that the suspects were part of a criminal network that engaged in fraud using stolen identities from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Further scrutiny into the backgrounds of the individuals disclosed alarming details. Kelly Arrigo had a significant criminal record in the area, while Jason Arzu was facing charges of forgery and identity theft in Pennsylvania and was out on bail. Jordan Arzu, on the other hand, had an active weapons case in New York City.

All three suspects have been charged with:

  • Second-degree Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, a Class D Felony
  • Fourth-degree Attempted Grand Larceny, a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Fifth-degree Conspiracy, a Class A Misdemeanor

Following their arrests, the individuals were remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility, with bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. Additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation progresses, according to the Herkimer Police Department.
