Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Following a fishing excursion with his son at Casperson Beach Park, a man found himself in hot water after allegedly threatening another driver on Sunday night. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident unfolded around 7:18 p.m. when a man drove up to a deputy’s patrol car at the sheriff’s office’s “South Office” parking lot, frantically seeking assistance. The man claimed that another driver, later identified as 35-year-old Justin Cecil, had brandished a gun at him.

According to the victim, Cecil cut him off while driving north on US-41, prompting other motorists to chastise Cecil for his erratic driving behaviour.

The victim recounted how he attempted to evade Cecil, but the latter pursued him into a parking lot at 4365 Englewood Rd. Witness statements indicate that Cecil emerged from his truck sporting black brass knuckles, engaging in a heated confrontation with the victim.

The altercation escalated as the two men stood “chest to chest,” with Cecil allegedly boasting about his exploits in Iraq and threatening the victim. Cecil then reportedly instructed his son to retrieve a firearm, leading to a tense standoff where Cecil allegedly aimed the weapon at the victim.

Feeling threatened and fearing for his safety, the victim promptly retreated to his vehicle and headed to the sheriff’s office to seek help.

The victim provided a description of Cecil’s vehicle as a silver Ford F-150, aiding officials in their pursuit of the suspect.

Cecil recklessly drove past the sheriff’s office while the victim was still recounting the incident to deputies, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Deputies pursued Cecil as he evaded capture, displaying erratic driving behaviour in the process.

Ultimately, Cecil was apprehended after pulling over and instructed to exit his vehicle. Authorities observed him exhibiting signs of impairment, leading to a search that uncovered incriminating evidence.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Cecil was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony.

During questioning, Cecil admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day while fishing with his son but refused to undergo field sobriety tests. His bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and unsteady gait further raised suspicions of intoxication.

The sheriff’s office detailed Cecil’s arrest and charges, underscoring the severity of the incident and the swift response by law enforcement personnel.
