On Monday, authorities in Homestead, Florida were conducting an investigation into a rollover vehicle crash at the intersection of Northeast Eighth Street and North Homestead Boulevard when chaos ensued.
Police officers noticed a man, later identified as Johnny Lott, interfering with items related to the ongoing investigation. Despite being instructed to leave the area by an officer directing traffic, Lott defied orders and instead climbed into a marked police vehicle in an attempt to escape.
Unfortunately for Lott, his escape plan was short-lived as he lost control of the stolen police car and crashed into the fence of JD Redd Park. Videos of the incident quickly spread on social media, showing a brave student from Somerset School and his father apprehending Lott until law enforcement could arrive.
Johnny Lott now faces a slew of charges, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft of law enforcement equipment, and resisting arrest without violence. Authorities are also considering additional traffic-related charges as the investigation unfolds.
