Accident – Death – Obituary News : John Dylan Gromling, a 32-year-old resident of Beverly Hills, has been handed a 20-year sentence by the Florida Department of Corrections for his involvement in a first-degree felony murder in 2022. This tragic incident was a result of the distribution of fentanyl, which led to the overdose death of 53-year-old Bruce William Payne.

In August of 2022, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) received a distressing call about a deceased individual at a residence in Inverness. Upon arrival, the deputies identified the deceased person as Payne and discovered drug paraphernalia that tested positive for fentanyl.

Following an extensive investigation, Detective Dan Slingerland of the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and the CCSO’s Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) were able to trace back the source of the lethal dose of fentanyl to John Dylan Gromling. It was determined that Gromling was responsible for supplying Payne with the deadly substance.

Sheriff Mike Prendergast expressed his strong stance against the distribution of fentanyl, referring to it as a “weapon of mass destruction” and a “death sentence” for many unsuspecting victims. He emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to combat the fentanyl crisis and to hold accountable those who engage in such illicit activities.

The successful prosecution of Gromling was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the detectives and the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office. Sheriff Prendergast commended the dedication and hard work of the law enforcement officials involved in bringing justice to the victim and his family.

This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of fentanyl abuse and the importance of taking decisive action to prevent further tragedies in the community. The CCSO continues to work tirelessly to eradicate the distribution of harmful substances and to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

As the fight against the fentanyl crisis continues, it is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. By working together and raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl, we can create a safer and healthier environment for everyone.
