The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has recently unveiled body-worn camera footage capturing the intense moments of a shooting involving a deputy at a Winter Park apartment complex.
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has made public body-worn camera footage of a recent shooting incident involving a deputy at a Winter Park apartment complex.
On the night of Friday, April 19, at approximately 10:30 p.m., law enforcement officers responded to reports of an individual brandishing a firearm and allegedly aiming it at several residents at the Indigo Winter Park Apartments on U.K. Circle near S. Semoran Blvd. Aerial surveillance footage led deputies to believe that the individual was armed as he ran through the complex grounds.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released body-worn camera footage detailing a recent shooting involving a deputy at a Winter Park apartment complex.

“Upon arrival, our deputies heard a single gunshot and encountered the individual, who was still holding the weapon. Our deputies discharged their firearms at the individual, striking him and causing him to fall to the ground. They were able to secure him and provide medical assistance,” stated Orange County Sheriff John Mina in an interview with FOX 35 News on the night of the incident.
Man shot by Orange County deputy after pointing gun at others, sheriff reports
Deputies were dispatched to the Indigo Winter Park Apartments on U.K. Circle around 10:30 p.m. to investigate a report of an armed individual pointing a firearm at other residents at the apartment complex.
The individual, later identified as 47-year-old Jesse Santino Lewelling, was transported to a medical facility. Deputies confirmed the recovery of a loaded firearm at the scene.
Lewelling, who is wanted in another state, now faces multiple felony charges, including possession of a weapon and ammunition by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a firearm, and resisting an officer with violence, as per the sheriff’s office.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting an investigation into the incident and will present its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for evaluation. Subsequently, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will initiate an internal investigation.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on temporary administrative leave pending the initial review by FDLE.
