FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A Fredericksburg man has been taken into custody for the alleged abduction of a five-year-old girl.

According to reports, on May 19 at approximately 4 p.m., a Fredericksburg Sheriff’s deputy notified the Fredericksburg Police Department regarding an incident involving the attempted abduction of a young child.

The deputy, who was stationed at the Fredericksburg Fairgrounds for an event, was approached by a concerned woman who witnessed a man attempting to lead the young girl towards the men’s restroom.

In response to the report, Fredericksburg officers and a detective promptly arrived at the Fairgrounds to gather information from the witness and the girl’s family.

The family of the girl informed law enforcement that they were not acquainted with the suspect. Thanks to the detailed descriptions provided by witnesses, authorities were able to locate the individual swiftly.

The suspect has been identified as Francisco Gerardo Amaya Sosa, a 46-year-old resident of Stafford County.

Amaya Sosa was apprehended by officers and has since been charged with abduction. He is currently being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without the option of bail.
