Elisha Angelic Macia : “Tragic Loss: 22-Year-Old Woman Falls Off Cliff While Hiking”

Elisha Angelic Macia, a 22-year-old woman, met with a fatal accident over the weekend when she fell while hiking with friends near the Oneonta Trail in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her identity in a recent news release.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at around 4:20 p.m. when MCSO deputies received a distress call reporting a hiker had fallen from a cliff near Horsetail Falls trailhead. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a fellow hiker administering CPR. Tragically, Macia was pronounced dead at the scene by Cascade Locks Fire & EMS personnel at approximately 4:35 p.m.

Authorities revealed that Macia had become separated from her group during the hike and subsequently fell a distance of 50 to 60 feet from the cliff.

It remains unclear as to the circumstances surrounding her fall, as no one from the group witnessed the incident, as per the MCSO statement.

Deputy John Plock emphasized the importance of sticking together while hiking, cautioning against straying off the designated trail. He highlighted the dangers associated with deviating from the path, citing Macia’s case as a tragic example.

Following Macia’s untimely death, a close friend paid tribute to her on Facebook, describing her as a “literal angel” and reminiscing about their shared experiences. The friend expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Macia’s vibrant personality and cherished memories.

According to reports, Macia’s demise marks the second hiker fatality in the Columbia River Gorge due to a fall, following a similar incident earlier this year.
