Chandler Police Chief Bryan Chapman provided updates on the involvement of the Gilbert Goons in recent criminal cases in the city. Initially stating that the gang was not connected to any investigations in Chandler, Chapman later revealed that two incidents from last year involved individuals associated with the Gilbert Goons.

One of the suspects arrested in these cases is 18-year-old William Owen Hines, who is also facing charges in the October killing of 16-year-old Chandler resident Preston Lord. Another suspect, Jack Jay Woods, was charged in a December 2022 brass knuckles attack in a Gilbert parking garage.

The Gilbert Goons, a teen gang linked to various crimes including assault and murder, have been under scrutiny in the East Valley for their alleged involvement in violent activities.

Hines and Woods are defendants in a lawsuit filed by Richard Kuehner, seeking civil damages for an attack on his son in Gilbert last summer.

The two incidents in South Chandler involved a burglary following a teen gathering at a residence, and a fight at a teen party where a gun was reportedly present.

Details of the Incidents

On December 27, 2022, a teenage girl in Chandler hosted a gathering at her house, which attracted more attendees than expected. During the event, some of the uninvited guests stole valuables from the home, including cash, a watch, a pistol, and important documents.

Hines was identified as one of the individuals involved in the theft, along with Michael Brett Denison and Woods. Surveillance footage from the home captured the crime, leading to the arrests of the suspects.

Denison, as the only adult among the suspects, was sentenced to supervised probation and fined for his involvement in the burglary.

In another incident on April 2, 2023, police responded to a report of a fight involving a firearm at a large party in South Chandler. Despite claims of a gun being present, no weapon was found at the scene, and the case was closed due to lack of evidence.

The involvement of individuals associated with the Gilbert Goons in these cases highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing teen violence in the region.

As investigations continue and efforts to curb gang-related activities intensify, authorities are working to ensure the safety and security of communities in Chandler and beyond.
