Two Milwaukee men are now facing charges in relation to a shooting incident that took place near Dineen Park in January. The victim, who had gone to the park to smoke marijuana, was shot and wounded in the incident.

The individuals accused in this case are 18-year-old Brandon Zollicoffer and 20-year-old Gerald Baggett. They have been charged with several criminal offences, including:

  • First-degree reckless injury (Zollicoffer, Baggett)
  • Attempt armed robbery (Zollicoffer, Baggett)
  • Sell/possess/use/transport machine gun (Zollicoffer)

According to the details provided in the criminal complaint, a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy responded to Froedtert Hospital on Jan. 28 to interview a person who had sustained gunshot wounds at Dineen Park.

The victim recounted to the deputy that he had gone to the park to smoke marijuana in his car. While there, two individuals parked near his vehicle, and one of them approached him. The masked individual requested marijuana from the victim, who refused multiple times. Subsequently, the masked man pulled out a handgun from his jacket pocket and started shooting at the victim’s vehicle.

Milwaukee County detectives recovered surveillance footage of the incident from the shooting scene, helping them identify the vehicle driven by the shooter. The SUV was distinctive with a black roof rack.

On Feb. 4, detectives utilised a license plate recognition system, which located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the shooting. The vehicle had an Illinois license plate, which was found to be stolen on the same day as the shooting at Dineen Park.

Subsequently, detectives located the SUV on Feb. 5 near 2nd and Nash in Milwaukee. They observed Baggett exiting the driver’s side of the vehicle and entering a residence. Later that morning, Baggett attempted to flee the scene in the SUV but collided with an unmarked squad car, leading to his arrest. A search of the SUV resulted in the recovery of a mask similar to the one worn by the second individual at Dineen Park.

During a search of the residence Baggett had entered, law enforcement discovered two firearms – a Glock 19 9mm pistol with an auto sear attached and a Polymer 80 firearm also with an auto sear attached.

Further investigations revealed that the Polymer 80 handgun had been test fired on Feb. 6 and matched the casings found at the Dineen Park shooting scene.

During an interview with a detective, Zollicoffer acknowledged that his DNA would be found on the Polymer 80 handgun. He initially denied being at Dineen Park but later admitted that Baggett had driven him and two others to the park in the SUV. Zollicoffer confessed to attempting to purchase marijuana from the victim and shooting at him with the Polymer 80 handgun.
