Three Indian-American students tragically lost their lives in a devastating car accident in Alpharetta, Georgia. The incident, which occurred on May 14, resulted in the deaths of three 18-year-old students, with two others sustaining injuries. The Alpharetta Police have cited speeding as a potential contributing factor to the fatal crash.
The group of five students, all of Indian descent, were enrolled at Alpharetta High School and the University of Georgia. Among the deceased were Aryan Joshi, a senior at Alpharetta High School, Sriya Avasarala and Anvi Sharma, both first-year students at the University of Georgia.
The injured students have been identified as Rithwak Somepalli, a student at Georgia State University and the driver of the Honda Accord involved in the accident, and Mohammed Liyakath, a senior at Alpharetta High School.
According to authorities, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and crash into a tree line. Aryan Joshi and Sriya Avasarala were pronounced dead at the scene, while Anvi Sharma passed away later at North Fulton Hospital due to her injuries.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing, with initial reports suggesting that excessive speed may have been a key factor in the tragedy.
Sriya Avasarala was a valued member of the UGA Shikaari dance team, while Anvi Sharma showcased her vocal talents as part of the UGA Kalakaar a cappella group, as revealed in Instagram posts from the organisations, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Aryan Joshi, on the other hand, was a dedicated senior at Alpharetta High School and a proud member of the school’s cricket team.
The fatal accident took place on Westside Parkway, just north of Maxwell Road in Alpharetta, Georgia, sending shockwaves through the Indian-American community in the area.
