The tragic incident involving the fatal attack of a woman by her two registered XL bullies has left the community in shock.

Angeline Mahal, a woman in her 50s, was fatally attacked in her Hornchurch home in east London on Monday afternoon.

A relative of Ms Mahal disclosed that she had previously urged her to give up her pets following reports of other fatal XL Bully dog attacks.

Ms Mahal’s two sons discovered her lifeless body in the hallway, attempting CPR and calling for emergency assistance, but unfortunately, she had already passed away.

Armed police intervened, seizing the two registered dogs after confining them in a room, as a forensic tent was erected outside her residence in the quiet residential area.

The unnamed relative of Ms Mahal shared, “Angeline always had dogs, she has had them for years. Her most recent dogs were XL bullies. She had them since they were puppies and had proper registrations.

“We do not have all the details yet, but it seems that only one of them was involved in the attack. Her sons found her in the hallway. They attempted CPR, but she had already passed away. The police and paramedics arrived shortly after.”

Ms Mahal was declared deceased at the scene following the incident at 1.10 pm the previous day, with a cordon still in place around the property today.

The relative added, “You hear about dogs attacking their owners – but you never anticipate it happening to your own family.

“I had discussed with Angeline the fatal XL Bully attack in Jaywick, where a grandmother lost her life, and I always advised her to rehome the dogs. It was mainly because the dogs were a burden, requiring a lot of time for feeding and walking, limiting her freedom.

“However, it is crucial for anyone owning an XL Bully-type dog to act responsibly if they notice any signs of aggression and consider rehoming them.

“While it is challenging due to the emotional bond, we do not want another family to endure such a tragedy. We miss Angeline dearly. She was a genuine person with a compassionate heart.”

One neighbour, speaking on the condition of anonymity, mentioned that the dogs would frequently bark late at night, recalling a time when she had to lodge a noise complaint.

She also noted that the XL Bullies were rarely seen being taken for walks by their owners, while another resident cautioned her children to steer clear of the dogs.

She told PA: \”I warned them to never approach those dogs. They are dangerous. I did not witness anything, but I heard constant barking and saw many people outside.\”

Other neighbours recounted being instructed by the police to vacate their residences around 4 pm on Monday, with law enforcement cordoning off the street.

\”I stepped out of the house to see the commotion. We did not hear anything, but noticed a helicopter above and numerous police vehicles,\” a neighbour informed PA.

\”I stood by the road and witnessed a paramedic administering CPR. Such a tragic incident. It’s shocking.\”

Another resident mentioned hearing barking during the episode and had previously cautioned her child about approaching the XL bully dogs.

She informed the PA news agency: \”I told them to never go near those dogs. They are dangerous.

\”I did not witness anything, but I heard continuous barking and saw a crowd outside.\”

The woman was treated by medics from the London Ambulance Service but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police stated: “Due to the perceived threat, armed officers were dispatched. Following an assessment of the situation, the officers successfully seized two dogs.

“These dogs were registered XL Bully breeds and were confined inside a room within the house prior to the officers’ arrival.

“The family of the woman, who owned the dogs, is receiving support from the authorities.”

A resident walking her dogs nearby informed LBC this morning: “It’s just horrific, it’s awful.

“I don’t understand where these dogs came from; I have never seen them.

“I go out daily with my dogs, but I have never come across these ones. I would have noticed them because I would steer clear of them.

“It’s dreadful… so close to home.

“It’s a terrible, terrible thing to happen.

\”I still believe it’s primarily the responsibility of the owners. People with dogs should be able to train them, should be able to care for them properly.

“If these large dogs are kept indoors and never taken for walks, I believe that contributes significantly.”

Another neighbour, residing a few doors down and preferring to remain anonymous, mentioned that the residents kept to themselves and had been living at the property for approximately 18 months.

She stated that the dogs were often seen in the garden, barking late into the night, recalling an instance when she had to lodge a noise complaint.

Multiple residents confirmed that they had never observed the dogs being walked in the neighbourhood.

A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service stated: “We received a call at 1.09 pm on Monday 20th regarding an incident in Cornwall Close, RM11.

“We dispatched resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and London’s air ambulance.

“We provided treatment, but unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene, despite our efforts.”

One neighbour informed the Mirror: “There has been a continuous stream of vans since lunchtime, and we saw the helicopter flying overhead, leading us to fear the worst.

“Campion [a nearby school and sixth form college] is not far from here, so you worry it may involve children or something. You never imagine a dog would do such a thing. It’s tragic.”

This incident follows the recent sentencing of a mother and son involved in an attack by their XL Bully on an 8-year-old boy.

Amanda Young, aged 49, was sentenced to 20 months in prison after admitting to being in charge of a dog that caused injury while dangerously out of control in a public place.

Her son Lewis Young, aged 30, received a two-year prison term after pleading guilty to being the owner of the dog.
