The Topeka Police Department apprehended a 32-year-old woman following a reported burglary incident on Saturday, May 18th. The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of SW Clay St, where officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress.

According to reports, an unknown individual entered the residence without the property owner’s permission. Upon discovering the intruder, a physical altercation ensued between the residents and the trespasser.

Law enforcement officers were able to locate and identify the woman involved in the incident. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Zashira Gonzalez from Topeka, was taken into custody.

Gonzalez was subsequently charged and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for several offences, including aggravated burglary of a dwelling, battery causing bodily harm, battery on a law enforcement officer, endangering a child, obstruction of justice, and criminal damage to property.

Aggravated Burglary Charges

One of the most serious charges against Gonzalez is aggravated burglary, which involves entering a dwelling with the intent to commit a felony, theft, domestic violence, or a sexually motivated crime. This offence carries severe penalties under the law.

Battery and Assault Charges

In addition to the burglary charges, Gonzalez faces charges of battery for knowingly or recklessly causing bodily harm to another individual. She also faces a separate charge of battery on a law enforcement officer, which involves physical contact with a county or city officer while on duty.

Endangering A Child and Other Charges

Gonzalez has been charged with endangering a child due to the circumstances surrounding the incident. Furthermore, she faces charges of interference with law enforcement for obstructing, resisting, or opposing the execution of a misdemeanor warrant, as well as criminal damage to property.
