Pune: In a controversial decision, a minor accused of causing a fatal accident in Kalyani Nagar involving a Porsche has been granted bail under specific conditions. The 17-year-old, identified as Vedant Agarwal, will be required to write an essay on the “impact of road accidents and potential solutions” as part of his bail terms.

During the court proceedings, the police department requested the bench to treat the accused as an adult, but the court rejected the plea. The teenager, who is the son of prominent builder Vishal Agarwal, was released on bail within 15 hours of his arrest.

Legal Action Against Father and Bar Owner

The police department has announced plans to pursue legal action against the minor’s father and the establishment that served alcohol to a minor. Prashant Patil, a spokesperson for the department, stated that the accused must collaborate with the traffic police of Yerawada for 15 days, undergo treatment to address alcohol consumption, and receive psychiatric counselling.

The case involves the tragic deaths of Anis Avlia and Ashwini Kosta, a couple riding a motorbike with friends from Kalyaninagar to Yerawada. The fatal collision occurred at 3.15 am when Vedant Agarwal allegedly crashed his sports car into the victims from behind, resulting in their immediate deaths.

Legal Charges and Consequences

Following the incident, the police charged the minor with offences including rash and negligent driving, endangering lives, and causing harm under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act. The case has sparked debates about road safety and the accountability of young drivers in high-profile accidents.
