A High Point woman is fighting for her life after a shooting incident on Saturday morning. According to a news release from the High Point Police Department, the 27-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the 600 block of Everette Lane around 5:45 a.m.

Initially reported as a suicide, the case took a different turn as detectives from the HPPD’s Violent Crimes Unit arrived at the scene and uncovered evidence pointing towards foul play.

Following their investigation, 44-year-old Trynarda N. Burns, a resident of High Point, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Burns was promptly taken into custody and is currently being held at the Guilford County Jail without bond.

The victim remains in critical condition, with the incident being described as isolated by the police. It has been confirmed that both the suspect and the victim were acquainted with each other prior to the shooting.

The High Point Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
