The Surprise Police Department and Fire officials are set to release more details regarding a tragic domestic violence incident that occurred last week in Surprise, Arizona.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of Friday morning, involved 51-year-old Todd Christopher Marchetti, who reportedly broke into a home near Cotton Lane and Cactus Road. Marchetti held a woman and his own 6-month-old son hostage for several hours before the woman was able to alert a nearby construction worker, who promptly called 911.
Police arrived at the scene around 11:30 a.m. and heard gunshots coming from inside the home. Upon entering, they found the infant, identified as Jaxson, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The officers quickly removed the child from the premises for medical attention. Although one officer discharged a weapon during the initial response, Marchetti was not directly encountered at that time.
Despite several hours of negotiation attempts, Marchetti refused to surrender, prompting the deployment of additional officers and SWAT units to the scene. Tragically, the home eventually caught fire at around 3 p.m., leading firefighters to douse the property from a safe distance as they were unsure of Marchetti’s whereabouts.
On the following day, authorities discovered a body inside the burnt-out residence, believed to be that of Marchetti, who had apparently taken his own life with a gunshot wound.
Meanwhile, Jaxson, the young victim of the ordeal, has undergone multiple surgeries and is expected to pull through. According to family friends, Allie, Jaxson’s mother, had been striving to escape an abusive relationship with Marchetti and had recently relocated to her parents’ home in Surprise for safety.
Support for the affected family has poured in, with multiple GoFundMe campaigns launched to aid in their recovery and rebuilding efforts. One fundraiser is dedicated to assisting Allie and Jaxson, while another aims to aid Allie’s parents, who lost their home in the tragic blaze.
