– Truth about police violence against black men in the streets.

Accident – Death – Obituary News :

President Joe Biden sparked controversy during his recent commencement address at Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he questioned the point of democracy in light of police killings of black men. However, a closer look at the data on police-involved shootings in 2024 reveals that Biden’s comments may have been misleading.

Biden’s statement, “What is democracy if black men are being killed in the street?” raised eyebrows among critics and supporters alike. But a review of The Washington Post’s database tracking fatal police shootings in America showed that of the 74 black men who died in such incidents in 2024, only three were identified as unarmed.

The Case of Raymond Huddleston

One of the unarmed black men listed in the database is Raymond Huddleston, a 46-year-old who was killed in a vehicle in St. Francisville, Louisiana. However, Louisiana State Police reported that Huddleston allegedly faked a medical emergency during his transfer from a correctional center to a court in Baton Rouge.

According to reports from WBRZ, Huddleston feigned a seizure, attacked guards trying to assist him, disarmed an officer, and attempted to hijack the transport vehicle. In the ensuing struggle, at least one officer shot and killed him. Huddleston, a registered sex offender, was being transported for a court appearance in a domestic violence case.

The Case of Roshod Graham

Another unarmed black man identified in the database is Roshod Graham, a 30-year-old who was killed in Lauderhill, Florida. Reports from WSVN indicate that Graham’s girlfriend sought refuge in a gas station convenience store, asking the clerk to protect her from Graham.

When Graham tried to enter the store, the clerk locked him out. Graham then allegedly rammed his car into the building multiple times before fleeing from police. During the pursuit, Graham reportedly grabbed an officer’s gun, leading to his fatal shooting by law enforcement.

The Tragic Case of Terrell Marshawn Miller

The most heart-wrenching of the unarmed deaths listed in the database is that of four-year-old Terrell Marshawn Miller, who was killed in a house in Macomb, Illinois. A law enforcement review revealed that 57-year-old Anthony T. George had a knife to Miller’s throat during the incident.

As Chief Jeff Hamer of the Macomb Police Department explained, George, while still armed, made a sudden movement that led officers to fear for their safety. In response, an officer fired a single shot that tragically killed both George and young Miller.

Questioning Biden’s Narrative

While President Biden’s remarks at Morehouse College aimed to resonate with black voters, critics have accused him of twisting the truth to fit a narrative that the data does not support. Of the three unarmed black men killed by police in 2024, two were involved in dangerous incidents where they posed a threat to officers.

As the debate continues, it is crucial to examine the facts behind police-involved shootings and strive for a fair and accurate portrayal of these tragic events.
