BOONE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — The tragic case of 14-year-old Kyneddi Miller, who was found dead in a bathroom in an emaciated state, has taken a new turn with the grandparents now facing charges in connection to her death.

In a shocking development, Kyneddi’s mother, Julie Miller, had already waived her preliminary hearing back in April 2024. She was arrested following the discovery of her teen daughter’s body, which was described as being “emaciated to a skeletal state,” as detailed in a criminal complaint.

Both grandparents are now facing charges of child neglect resulting in death and are currently being held on a $25,000 property or 10%-cash bond.

The heart-wrenching details of the case revealed that Kyneddi had reportedly only been allowed outside a mere two times over a span of four years and had not attended school since either 2019 or 2020.

The disturbing physical condition of Kyneddi indicated a severe lack of care and attention from her mother for at least four years, ultimately leading to her untimely demise, according to the complaint.

Julie Miller, specifically, is facing charges of child neglect resulting in death and is currently in custody at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Neighbours, speaking anonymously to 13 News, expressed shock over the situation, revealing that they were unaware of the severity of the circumstances. They mentioned that state police had conducted alleged wellness checks in the past.

Community members who knew the grandparents described them as respectful individuals and were taken aback by the news of neglect and abuse within the household. They believed that the sudden weight loss experienced by Kyneddi prompted the family to seek help for her.
