CALEDONIA, Wis. – Tragedy struck in Caledonia, Wisconsin as one person lost their life in a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday, May 18.

The Village of Caledonia Police Department reported that at approximately 10 a.m., emergency services responded to a collision at the intersection of 4 Mile Road and Short Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders discovered an individual, later identified as the motorcyclist, had been thrown from their bike and was found lying off the road. Unfortunately, the individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Another vehicle involved in the collision, a black Tesla, was found overturned with the driver trapped inside. The driver sustained only minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

Initial investigations indicated that the Tesla was travelling westbound on 4 Mile Road and was attempting to overtake another vehicle. Simultaneously, a motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction. During the overtaking manoeuvre, the Tesla veered into the eastbound lane and collided with the motorcycle. It is important to note that this particular stretch of road only has two lanes, one in each direction.

Authorities have stated that speed and alcohol consumption may have played a role in the actions of the Tesla driver. Consequently, the driver of the Tesla has been arrested on charges of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle and other related offences.

The Caledonia Police Department will be presenting the charges against the Tesla driver to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office in the forthcoming days.

The individual behind the wheel of the Tesla is a 32-year-old man from Caledonia, while the motorcyclist was a 44-year-old also from Caledonia.
