Three individuals were admitted to hospital after a shooter opened fire at a supermarket in Claremont on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at the Super King Market located at 436 Auto Center Drive at approximately 5:11 p.m.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as 27-year-old Michael Abeyta from Pomona, entered the supermarket with the intention of robbing the establishment, according to the Claremont Police Department.

During the robbery, Abeyta shot three adult victims before fleeing the scene. The victims were transported to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition.

Through witness testimonies and surveillance footage, detectives were able to ascertain the identity of the suspect.

Law enforcement officers discovered the suspect’s clothing and a firearm believed to have been used during the robbery. These items were found concealed under a vehicle at a nearby business.

With the assistance of an airship from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Abeyta was located walking on the 100 block of Meredith Avenue and subsequently apprehended.

Abeyta faces multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and making criminal threats of robbery. He is currently being held on a $2 million bail.

Further investigation revealed an accomplice in the robbery, identified as Amanda Soto, 37, also from Pomona.

Soto was arrested on charges of robbery and for having an active warrant. She is currently being held on a $125,000 bail.

The shooting incident is still under investigation by authorities.
