A tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra’s Pune city on Sunday when a 17-year-old minor crashed a speeding Porsche car into a motorcycle, resulting in the death of two individuals. The Pune City Police confirmed that the luxury car, driven by the juvenile, hit the bike from behind, causing the fatal collision.
“A bike rider and pillion were killed in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune City last night when a speeding Porsche car struck them from behind. The accused driver has been apprehended, and an FIR has been lodged. The investigation is currently ongoing,” stated DCP Vijay Kumar Magar of Pune City Police.
According to the filed FIR, the tragic incident occurred around 3:15 am in Kalyani Nagar as a group of friends, returning home after a party at a local restaurant, were riding their motorbikes.
Legal Actions Taken
The father of the accused juvenile and the establishment that served alcohol to the underage driver are facing legal actions under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, as per the Commissioner of Police, Pune.
The fatal collision took place near Kalyani Nagar junction, where the Porsche car collided with one of the motorcycles, causing the riders to fall and tragically lose their lives on the spot, as detailed in the FIR.
Following the collision with the motorcycle, the speeding car crashed into the roadside railings, leading to further damage, the report added.
Footage circulating on social media depicted a crowd confronting the driver as he attempted to exit the crashed vehicle.
The victims have been identified as Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, according to the FIR.
A case has been registered against the car driver at Yerawada police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 279, 304A, 337, and 338, alongside provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The authorities are also pursuing legal actions against the teenager’s parents under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, a police official confirmed.
