Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Clearfield apprehended a 23-year-old man on Friday following a reckless escapade that involved striking four vehicles, including a police car. The suspect, identified as Adrian Rivas, was taken into custody after attempting to evade law enforcement officers.

The incident unfolded on May 17 when Clearfield Police responded to a call regarding a potential DUI at 19 North Main Street. The caller reported that Rivas, who was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, allegedly brandished a handgun at them before driving away.

Rivas, the sole occupant of his vehicle, was observed swerving on I-15 before pulling into a Baskin Robbins parking lot. He exited his vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation, striking the driver of a red truck through their driver-side window.

After the altercation, Rivas re-entered his car and proceeded down 19 North Main Street. He then parked his vehicle and sought refuge in a nearby apartment complex. Law enforcement officers blocked Rivas’ vehicle to prevent his escape.

Despite commands from the officers, Rivas ignored them and re-entered his vehicle. In a frantic attempt to flee, Rivas put his car in reverse, striking the initial caller’s vehicle and the police car. He then accelerated, driving on the sidewalk and colliding with a handicap sign and two additional vehicles.

The erratic driving continued as Rivas narrowly missed a pedestrian while driving at a high speed. To stop Rivas, the officer on the scene collided with the driver’s side of his vehicle, forcing him to crash into a pole. Rivas was subsequently arrested and placed in handcuffs.

A search of Rivas’ vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm with a bullet in the chamber, amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, and a marijuana pipe. As a result, Rivas faces a litany of charges, including third-degree felony aggravated assault and third-degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

Adrian Rivas was remanded to the Davis County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings.
