A 23-year-old man was taken into custody in Clearfield on Friday following a chaotic incident where he fled from officers and collided with four vehicles, including a police car.

According to Clearfield Police, the events leading to the arrest of Adrian Rivas unfolded on May 17 when they received a report of a possible DUI at 19 North Main Street.

The caller informed authorities that Rivas, who was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, allegedly brandished a handgun at them before driving off.

Rivas, the sole occupant of his vehicle, was then observed swerving on I-15 before pulling into a Baskin Robbins parking lot. He exited his car and engaged in a physical altercation, striking the driver of a red truck through the driver-side window.

Subsequently, Rivas got back into his vehicle and continued driving down 19 North Main Street.

Police stated that Rivas parked his car and entered a nearby apartment complex, prompting an officer to block his vehicle to prevent him from leaving.

Shortly after, Rivas emerged from the apartment complex and was given commands by the officer, which he ignored before getting back into his vehicle.

Authorities reported that Rivas reversed his vehicle, colliding with the initial caller’s vehicle and the police car before driving forward. He then veered onto the sidewalk, striking a handicap sign, two additional vehicles, and narrowly missing a pedestrian while travelling at high speed.

At this juncture, the officer struck the driver’s side of Rivas’ car, causing him to crash into a pole. Rivas was subsequently apprehended and placed in handcuffs.

Following a search of Rivas’ vehicle, law enforcement discovered a firearm with a bullet in the chamber, amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, and a marijuana pipe.

Rivas was subsequently booked into the Davis County Jail on around 20 charges, including third-degree felony aggravated assault and third-degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
