A tragic incident occurred at a University of Georgia construction site on Friday, resulting in the death of a worker who was struck by a forklift.
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Trevor Wilkie, a resident of Highland Park Drive, according to county coroner Sonny Wilson.
The unfortunate incident took place before 10 a.m. while Wilkie, who was employed by IMI Construction in Watkinsville, was working on a campus steam line project. It was during this time that he was accidentally struck by the forklift.
The construction site is situated between the Miller Learning Center and Tate Student Center, adding to the sorrowful nature of the event.
Following the accident, Wilkie was swiftly transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
