COLUMBUS, Ga. — Authorities in Columbus, Georgia, have announced the arrest of Samuel Haynes in Chicago on suspicion of murdering his father, Billy Haynes, back in November.
The arrest of Samuel Haynes, 31, took place on Tuesday following an extensive investigation by the Columbus Police Department.
According to reports from Channel 2 Action News, patrol officers responded to a welfare check call at a residence on Lawyers Lane on Nov. 19, 2023.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a male individual in a decomposed state in a bedroom. The Violent Crimes Unit was called in to investigate the death, which was later confirmed to be Billy Haynes.
Deputy Coroner Dustin Harrelson pronounced Billy Haynes dead at the scene, and an autopsy revealed that he had been killed by stabbing, leading to the case being classified as a homicide.
Following the establishment of probable cause, an arrest warrant for murder was issued for Samuel Haynes, who was subsequently apprehended in Chicago and is now awaiting extradition back to Columbus.
