Meera Sahu : “Family Tragedy: Man Kills Five, Hangs Self After Rejection”

RAIPUR, May 18: A 32-year-old man allegedly committed a heinous crime by murdering five members of a family in Chhattisgarh’s Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district before taking his own life. The shocking incident unfolded in Thargaon village under Saliha police station limits, leaving the community in disbelief, police officials revealed.

The victims of this brutal act were identified as Hemlal Sahu (55), his wife Jagmoti Sahu (50), their daughters Meera Sahu (30) and Mamta Sahu (35), as well as Meera’s young son Ayush (5). The perpetrator, identified as Manoj Sahu, a resident of the same village, was later found hanging in a separate room.

Authorities were alerted by locals, prompting a swift response from the police who arrived at the scene and arranged for the bodies to undergo autopsy examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that Manoj, armed with an axe, entered the victims’ home while they were asleep, carried out the gruesome murders, and then took his own life by hanging himself with a saree.

It was revealed that Manoj had a history with the family, particularly with Meera, whom he had proposed to years ago. However, Meera had rejected his advances, leading to a strained relationship between the two. In 2017, an assault complaint was filed against Manoj by Meera and her family members, with the case still pending trial.

Meera, who was visiting her parents’ house with her son while her husband worked in Raipur, became a tragic victim of Manoj’s vengeful actions. The motive behind the horrific crime was believed to be rooted in Manoj’s unrequited affection for Meera and the rejection he faced.

With Manoj being unmarried, the shocking turn of events has left the community reeling and questioning the underlying factors that led to such a tragic outcome. The authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the case, with further details expected to emerge as the probe progresses.

The district Superintendent of Police, Pushkar Sharma, expressed deep regret over the incident and assured that the law enforcement agencies would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind this harrowing murder-suicide in Chhattisgarh.
