Raipur, May 18 (PTI) – In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 32-year-old man allegedly murdered five members of a family before taking his own life in Chhattisgarh’s Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district. The gruesome incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at Thargaon village, under the jurisdiction of Saliha police station, approximately 200 km from Raipur.
The victims of this brutal attack have been identified as Hemlal Sahu (55), his wife Jagmoti Sahu (50), their daughters Meera Sahu (30) and Mamta Sahu (35), and Meera’s son Ayush (5). The perpetrator, Manoj Sahu, a resident of the same village, was found hanging in a separate room.
According to District Superintendent of Police Pushkar Sharma, the assailant, armed with an axe, entered the family’s home while they were asleep and carried out the heinous act before ending his own life. It has been revealed that Manoj had previously proposed marriage to Meera, who had rejected his advances. In 2017, a First Information Report was filed against Manoj for assaulting Meera and her family members, with the trial still ongoing.
Meera, who was visiting her parents’ house with her son while her husband was working in Raipur, fell victim to this senseless act of violence. Manoj, a tailor by profession, remained unmarried at the time of his death.
The local police were alerted by residents of the village, and the bodies were sent for autopsy as part of the investigation. A case has been registered, and further inquiries are currently underway to understand the full extent of this tragic event.
