Teenager Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Decatur Motorcycle Accident

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) – A tragic accident occurred on Friday evening in Decatur, resulting in a teenager sustaining life-threatening injuries after a motorcycle collided with a car.

According to Decatur police reports, the incident took place at 2500 N 22nd St around 11:15 p.m. The initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle involved was a black 2006 BMW travelling southbound, while the car, a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, was travelling northbound. The collision occurred when the car attempted to turn left into a parking lot on private property.

The motorcycle rider, a 16-year-old Mount Zion resident who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car, identified as 63-year-old Karen A. Boehm from Decatur, also sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Subsequent toxicology reports revealed the presence of methamphetamines and amphetamines in Boehm’s system. As a result, Decatur police arrested her on multiple charges, including severe drug driving causing serious bodily injury, driving after having her driving license revoked, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal display of registration, and no valid registration.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with Decatur police working to gather more information about the circumstances leading to the collision. At this time, no further details have been released.
