John Michael Worley : “Parachute Cold Case Reopened”

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Three years to the day of the murder of a Parachute man, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) arrested a suspect.

On May 11th, 2021, the GCSO responded to reports of a male who was found bleeding and unresponsive in his car on Highway 6, just west of Parachute. The man was determined deceased on the scene and was later identified as Wayne Moore, a local man who lived in his vehicle in the surrounding areas of Parachute. Initial investigation of the scene by investigators with the GCSO and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) determined that Moore had been the victim of a homicide and was shot multiple times.

Over the next several weeks, months, and over the next three years, GCSO investigators conducted dozen of witness interviews, multiple search warrants, and analyzed physical evidence tirelessly. As a result of persistent investigation, evidence suggested that John Michael Worley, a 30-year-old from Parachute, was their primary suspect in Moore’s murder.

On May 10th, 2024 the GCSO were able to obtain and develop enough evidence to acquire an arrest warrant for Worley. He was arrested later that evening without incident and is being charged with the following:

– Murder in the First Degree, a class 1 Felony

– Stalking, a class 5 Felony

– Tampering with Physical Evidence, a class 6 Felony

Worley was transported to the Garfield County Jail with a bond set at £5,000,000.

The CBI, the Parachute Police Department, the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and the Garfield County Special Problem Enforcement and Response Team (SPEAR) assisted the GCSO in the case investigation over the span of three years.
