Jineesh Reddy : Hyderabad Man Accused in Hit-and-Run Case Caught in 5 Months

Kottayam: Authorities in Kottayam have made a significant breakthrough in a hit-and-run case that occurred five months ago. The incident, which took place in the village of Koruthode, resulted in the tragic death of an elderly woman named Thankamma. The accused, identified as Jineesh Reddy, aged 30 and working as a driver in Telangana, was apprehended by Mundakkayam police in Hyderabad on Saturday.

The hit-and-run incident occurred on December 15, 2023, as Thankamma was on her way to church. She was struck by a car carrying Sabarimala pilgrims at approximately 9 am and later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Investigation and Arrest

An eyewitness provided crucial information to the authorities, indicating that the vehicle involved was an SUV of brown colour, specifically a Maruti Ertiga. Mundakayam police immediately began efforts to locate CCTV footage in the vicinity and shared the lead with other police stations.

After reviewing footage from over 100 cameras, a breakthrough came when a visual revealed the car’s registration number. Subsequently, the police contacted the Telangana Motor Vehicles Department, which provided details of the vehicle’s owner in Karimnagar, Telangana.

Following this lead, a team from Mundakkayam police travelled to Hyderabad, where they discovered that the vehicle was registered to a woman operating a rent-a-car business. By examining booking records from December 2023, the authorities were able to track down Jineesh Reddy, who confessed to his involvement in the hit-and-run incident.

Legal Action

Jineesh Reddy has been charged under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to causing the death of a person through a negligent or rash act not amounting to culpable homicide. After being taken into custody, Reddy was later released on bail pending further legal proceedings.
