Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Bengaluru: The Hubballi-Dharwad Police have apprehended a 22-year-old man from Davangere in connection with the brutal murder of a young woman, Anjali Ambiger (20), who rejected his marriage proposal. The accused, identified as Girish Sawant alias Vishwa, allegedly stabbed Anjali multiple times at her residence in Hubballi on Wednesday before fleeing the scene.

Reports suggest that Girish had been harbouring intentions of murdering Anjali for the past three months, a plan he had openly shared with his friends. He even went as far as comparing himself to another infamous murderer, Fayaz, who had killed a college student named Neha Hiremath in a similar manner in Hubballi just a month prior.

Following the incident, a Police Inspector and a woman Head Constable were suspended for neglecting their duties in preventing the tragic murder. Anjali’s family has since come forward, claiming that they had previously informed the authorities about the potential threat but no action was taken.

According to the Police investigation, Girish’s anger stemmed from his disapproval of Anjali marrying someone else. The rift between the couple began three months ago during a shopping trip, where Anjali mentioned her family’s search for potential suitors. This revelation led to a heated argument, resulting in Girish physically assaulting her in public. Since that incident, he had been plotting Anjali’s murder.

Further investigation unveiled Girish Sawant’s employment at Maharaja Hotel in Mysuru as a supplier. The restaurant’s owner, Govardhan, disclosed that Girish initially worked as a caregiver for his elderly father through Vinayaka Nursing Care Service before transitioning to a role at the hotel.

“Girish’s work at the hotel was marked by irregularities, frequent absences citing his mother’s ill health, and borrowing money from colleagues. Despite these issues, he was well-liked by the staff and had no reported conflicts,” Govardhan stated.

On the day of the murder, Hubballi Police contacted Govardhan regarding Girish’s whereabouts, eventually revealing his involvement in the heinous crime. Shocked by the news, Govardhan and the hotel staff cooperated with the authorities during the investigation.
