Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 22-year-old man, Caleb Mershon, has been found guilty by a Wilson County jury for the reckless killing of Austin Gordon, a 19-year-old teenager and Green Hill High School graduate. The verdict was announced by District Attorney General Jason Lawson of the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s office. Mershon was convicted of multiple charges in connection with the shooting death of Gordon, which occurred in September 2022. The prosecutors described the shooting as reckless and unintentional.
According to testimony presented during the trial, Mershon and Gordon were friends who were celebrating Gordon’s 19th birthday when the tragic incident took place. Gordon was discovered dead with a gunshot wound on Glen Oaks Drive in Wilson County, as reported by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. He was identified as Austin Scott-Lee Gordon, a recent graduate of Green Hill High School.
The prosecution alleged that Mershon was intoxicated and behaved recklessly with a handgun on the night of the shooting. They claimed that Mershon had pointed the firearm at several other teenagers before the fatal incident occurred. Despite his efforts to assist Gordon after the shooting, Mershon was unsuccessful in saving his friend’s life.
The Wilson County jury found Mershon guilty of several charges, including reckless homicide, reckless aggravated assault resulting in death, three counts of reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and underage consumption of alcohol. The sentencing for Mershon is scheduled for September 10.
