SARASOTA, Fl. (WDHN) — Auburn running back Brian Battie has been reported as one of the victims injured in a tragic parking lot shooting that took place in Sarasota, Florida on Saturday morning. Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours at around 3:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of 17th Street.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one individual, identified as 24-year-old Tommie L. Battie IV, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. In addition, four more victims, including Brian Battie, were swiftly transported to a local hospital for immediate medical attention. Their current conditions remain unknown at this time.

Authorities have stated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

Brian Battie, a senior running back for the Auburn Tigers, transferred to the university from South Florida in 2023. During his time at South Florida, Battie had made a name for himself as an All-American kick returner for the Bulls. Since joining Auburn, Battie has continued to showcase his talents on the field, ranking fourth in the SEC in kickoff return average and making significant contributions as a running back, accumulating over 200 yards rushing last season.
