Man tragically loses life in fatal shooting outside Bridgeview apartment complex
A devastating incident unfolded in suburban Bridgeview on Wednesday morning as a man fell victim to a fatal shooting while leaving an apartment complex.
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – A Cook County resident has been taken into custody in connection to a tragic shooting that occurred in Bridgeview early Wednesday morning.
Anthony Calderon, a 20-year-old individual from Bedford Park, has been accused of fatally shooting a man who was making his way to his car outside an apartment complex in the 7300 Block of 79th Street.
The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Arturo Cantu. Cantu, who was on his way to work, was struck by gunfire twice as he exited his apartment around 5 a.m.
Having remote-started his vehicle, Cantu was walking towards his car when he was allegedly confronted by Calderon.
Upon receiving the distressing news, law enforcement rushed to the scene and discovered Cantu’s lifeless body near his apartment building. Tragically, he was pronounced dead on site.
Calderon was apprehended and formally charged with first-degree murder on Friday evening. The Bridgeview Police managed to obtain surveillance footage from nearby establishments, aiding in the identification and subsequent arrest of Calderon.
Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha disclosed that the shooting appears to be an isolated occurrence, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the vicious attack and subsequent loss of life.
