A tragic incident has unfolded in Kisima village, Nyahururu town, in Laikipia County, Kenya, where a 17-year-old boy, Stephen Njuguna, lost his life after being mercilessly beaten by a shop owner and his employees.

The Form Two student, Stephen Njuguna, was accused of stealing a piece of cloth valued at Sh500. The alleged theft led to hours of physical torment within the confines of the shop premises, where the boy suffered severe injuries.

Stephen Njuguna’s ordeal only came to an end when his tormentors realized the gravity of his condition and allowed him to leave the premises in critical condition.

Following the brutal incident, the residents of Nyahururu town expressed their outrage through protests, demanding the immediate arrest of the suspects involved and the revocation of the shop’s trading licenses.

Upon receiving a call from the shop owner regarding his son’s alleged theft and detention, Njuguna’s father, Mr. James Muraya, was shocked by the extent of the violence inflicted on his son.

Mr. Muraya revealed that the shop owner demanded a sum of Sh5,000 for the release of his son, who was in excruciating pain due to the beatings. The boy recounted being attacked with crude weapons, kicks, and blows by the shop owner and his employees.

In response to the incident, Nyahururu police boss Jackline Gacheri confirmed the arrest of two suspects on Thursday, May 16, in connection with Stephen Njuguna’s tragic death.
