Shop owner and his employees allegedly kill 17-year-old boy for stealing N5000 outfit

A tragic incident has rocked Kisima village, Nyahururu town in Laikipia County, Kenya, as a 17-year-old boy lost his life after allegedly being beaten by a shop owner and his employees. The victim, identified as Stephen Njuguna, a Form Two student, was accused of stealing a piece of cloth worth Sh500.

Reports suggest that Njuguna endured severe torture while in the custody of the shop owner and his staff within the shop premises. The brutal beating continued for hours until the perpetrators realized the boy was in critical condition.

Following the incident, residents of Nyahururu town took to the streets in protest, demanding justice for the deceased and calling for the immediate arrest of the suspects involved. They also called for the revocation of the shop’s trading licenses as a form of retribution.

Njuguna’s father, Mr James Muraya, recounted receiving a distressing call from the shop owner regarding his son’s alleged theft and subsequent detention at the shop. The shop owner reportedly demanded a sum of Sh5,000 as compensation for the stolen item.

Mr Muraya disclosed that his son complained of excruciating pain in his stomach and chest following the ordeal. The teenager narrated to his mother the horrific details of the beatings, which included the use of crude weapons, kicks, and punches.

On Thursday, May 16, Nyahururu police boss, Jackline Gacheri, confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the incident. The authorities are currently conducting investigations to bring justice to the victim and his grieving family.
