Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill made a significant announcement on Thursday regarding the case of the alleged 1996 murder of a pizza delivery woman in West Valley City. Donald Eugene Young Jr. is now facing serious charges in connection with this long-standing case.

Young Jr. has been charged with multiple first-degree crimes, including murder, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated robbery. These charges come after advanced DNA testing on blood found on the seat belt buckle revealed a match to Mr. Young. Additionally, fingerprints from the knife discovered at the scene also matched those of the accused.

The incident in question took place on December 9, 1996, when authorities responded to an auto-pedestrian accident at the intersection of 3100 South and 5300 West. The victim, identified as Lisa Redmond, a 36-year-old mother of two and a Pizza Hut employee, was found at the scene. Signs of a struggle were evident in the delivery truck, with blood discovered underneath the vehicle. The murder weapon, a knife, was also located inside the truck.

This development in the case has brought closure to the family and friends of the victim after over two decades of uncertainty. The District Attorney’s office, along with law enforcement agencies, have worked tirelessly to bring justice to this tragic case.
