Kanpur: Additional district and sessions judge (for trials of offences against women), Shraddha Tripathi, has convicted Amit Mishra, a resident of Safipur Harjindar Nagar, for physically exploiting a girl. The accused has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000.

The presiding judge clarified that the time the accused spent in jail during the trial would be considered as part of the punishment. Moreover, 75% of the fine amount, which is Rs 12,250, will be awarded to the victim as per the rules. However, the accused has been acquitted of charges under the IT Act due to the benefit of the doubt.

Details of the Case

Jitendra Pandey, the additional district government counsel, revealed that the victim, a resident of Lal Bangla locality in the city, was employed at a mobile shop where she met Amit Mishra. Mishra lured her with a promising job opportunity. On the evening of April 7, 2018, he called her to his house, where he physically exploited her and recorded a video.

When the victim objected, he not only threatened to kill and defame her but also distributed the video and other photographs. The case was brought to trial on July 11, 2018.

Another Conviction in Kanpur

In a separate case, additional district and sessions judge, court number 26, Kanpur Nagar, Pramod Kumar IV, convicted a woman identified as Vimla for the dowry death of her daughter-in-law. She has been sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

In his order, the judicial official directed that Rs 8,000 from the fine amount be given to the legal heirs of the deceased.

Bhaskar Mishra, the additional district government counsel, mentioned that the complainant Jagdish, father of the deceased Priyanka, stated in his FIR that he had married his daughter Priyanka to Arvind in 2013. However, on July 14, 2018, around 10 am, Arvind, along with his parents and other relatives, allegedly set Priyanka on fire. She was later admitted to LLR Hospital in a critical condition, fighting for her life. Based on the FIR, the police charged Bablu Lal, Arvind, and Vimla.
