AVON PARK, Fla. – A suspected armed intruder is deceased, while a woman is suffering from severe injuries following a harrowing home invasion in Avon Park.
The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing call at a residence on Joe Hilton Street in Avon Park around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, prompting an urgent investigation into a potentially dangerous situation.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man and a woman with serious injuries. The male victim recounted to authorities that another individual, later identified as 62-year-old Lindsey Glen, had met a tragic fate inside the home.
Sheriff Paul Blackman revealed that Glen had deceived the victims to gain entry into the premises. Once inside, he brandished a firearm and callously shot the woman in the facial region.

Witnessing his wife being targeted, the male victim courageously grabbed a 7-inch garden knife and subsequently neutralized Glen.

“Ultimately, the suspect, Lindsey Glen, was incapacitated and deceased by the time deputies intervened,” Blackman stated.
According to Blackman, Glen had a criminal record with at least 12 felony convictions, including charges of robbery and burglary, resulting in six separate stints in state prison.

“I commend the male victim for his valiant defence of his wife within their residence,” Blackman praised. “Our thoughts are with his wife as we wish her a swift and full recovery.”
The man who thwarted Glen’s attack received medical treatment at a local hospital and has since been discharged.
The fatal altercation remains under active investigation.
