Reports from Evbohen quarters in Idumebo community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, suggest that a group of heavily armed men, believed to be kidnappers, have carried out a heinous act by allegedly killing a man identified as Johnbull Osagiede. This tragic incident occurred after the victim’s family had reportedly paid a ransom of N9 million to secure his release.
According to sources, the armed men stormed the community last Tuesday, abducted Johnbull Osagiede, and whisked him away to an undisclosed location. Subsequently, the kidnappers contacted the deceased’s wife and demanded a ransom of N15 million for his safe return.
The family, in a bid to secure Osagiede’s release, initially paid N3 million to the kidnappers. However, the criminals insisted on more money and eventually received a total sum of N9 million through transactions at designated locations. Sadly, despite the ransom payment, Johnbull Osagiede was reportedly found dead by the community vigilante, with his body dumped at Pipeline Road near Iguelaba community.
Speaking on the tragic turn of events, a source within the family expressed shock and dismay at the kidnappers’ decision to take the life of their loved one after receiving the ransom. The incident has been reported to the Ugo Police Division by the community members, seeking justice for the untimely death of Johnbull Osagiede.
When contacted for a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that the command had not yet been briefed on the incident. Nwabuzor emphasized the importance of reporting such criminal activities to the authorities for proper investigation and resolution.
As the community mourns the loss of Johnbull Osagiede and grapples with the shocking betrayal by the kidnappers, questions linger about the motives behind the tragic outcome of a ransom negotiation that was supposed to ensure the victim’s safe return.
