Accident – Death – Obituary News :

An “armed and dangerous” suspect who caused panic on the city’s east side Wednesday night by stabbing his estranged wife and elderly mother-in-law before kidnapping the latter, has been identified as 61-year-old John Leonard Davis. According to Bend police, the incident ended tragically with the suspect taking his own life.

The chaotic sequence of events began around 7:24 p.m. when a stabbing was reported in the 3000 block of NW Kenwood Court in the Awbrey Butte neighbourhood.

Davis then proceeded to forcefully take his 83-year-old mother-in-law from her residence on Dale Road in the city’s north end and drove to his estranged wife’s home in Awbrey Butte in a black Lincoln Navigator.

After arriving at the wife’s residence, Davis viciously attacked and stabbed both women before fleeing the scene in the Navigator with his mother-in-law in tow.

At 7:35 p.m., a Redmond police lieutenant spotted the Navigator at Big Sky Park located at the intersection of Neff and Hamby roads. Davis was seen giving his mother-in-law a ride before driving off.

A few minutes later, the abandoned Navigator was discovered parked at Buckingham Primary School adjacent to the park. Witnesses reported seeing Davis fleeing east through nearby baseball fields.

A massive response was launched by various law enforcement agencies, including the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team, Deschutes County SWAT, and multiple K9 units, who tracked Davis to the vicinity of Montara Drive.

Police later confirmed that Davis was found deceased north of Big Sky Park, with evidence pointing towards a self-inflicted fatal injury. Meanwhile, both injured women were transported to St. Charles hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

Throughout the search operation, authorities issued multiple alerts to residents via the Deschutes Alerts system, urging them to stay indoors. The suspect was described as a white male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with white paint on his face and body. The final notification of his demise was sent to residents at 9:43 p.m.
