A woman from Lincoln has turned herself in two days after a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man. Cindy Martinez, 22, surrendered herself to the authorities at the Lancaster County Jail and has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident that led to injury or death.
The incident took place on the evening of May 14th, when emergency services were called to the area of North 37th Street and Cornhusker Highway in response to a report of a man lying unconscious on the street. The victim, identified as Alejandro Murillo, was attended to by medical personnel at the scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, Murillo succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival at the medical facility.
An investigation conducted by the Lincoln Police Department revealed that Murillo had been struck by a vehicle driven by Martinez, who is identified as the mother of his child. The subsequent actions of Martinez behind the wheel were determined to have been a contributing factor in the tragic outcome of the incident.
Authorities have been interviewing individuals who may have information related to the case and have been examining evidence to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision.
