Law enforcement authorities in Jackson County, Kansas are currently investigating three suspects on multiple allegations.

Just prior to 8:30 p.m., a Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a stop on a grey 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 truck near the intersection of 182nd and S. Road. The stop was initiated due to the license plate on the vehicle being registered to a different vehicle.

It was later discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Miami County, Kansas. The driver, identified as Chellcie Sparks, 35, from Mayetta, was subsequently arrested on various charges including possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with law enforcement, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Shortly after 7 a.m. the following morning, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious individual and vehicle with Iowa tags in the vicinity of Chellcie Sparks’ residence at 182nd and S. Roads.

Upon arrival, deputies found that a fugitive, identified as 41-year-old Justin Lane Stephens from Springfield, Missouri, had barricaded himself inside the residence. Stephens had outstanding warrants in Jackson County for burglary, theft, criminal damage, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was considered to be armed and dangerous.

Stephens was also wanted in Springfield, Missouri for forgery, and had an outstanding warrant in Christian County, Missouri for larceny.

Following the issuance of a search warrant on the property, Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers, along with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, assisted in breaching the residence. Stephens was eventually located hiding behind furniture in a bedroom and was taken into custody.

Aside from the existing charges, Stephens was booked into the Jackson County Jail on additional charges including felon in possession of a firearm, identity theft, possession of counterfeit currency, and felony interference with law enforcement.
