Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The San Mateo Police Department has made significant progress in arresting three individuals involved in a series of roofing scams that targeted elderly residents in the area. The arrests come after a thorough investigation into the fraudulent activities of the suspects.

Origin of the Scam

The first reported incident of these roofing scams dates back to November 2023. It was discovered that a group of white men with “Irish accents” were operating under the guise of a fake construction company called “Statewide Roofing and Siding.” This group specifically targeted elderly residents in San Mateo, preying on their vulnerability.

Statewide Roofing and Siding used a counterfeit contractor’s license to deceive victims and overcharge them for construction work that was either incomplete or unnecessary. The victims fell victim to the scam due to the deceptive practices of the fraudulent company.

Modus Operandi

On May 7, the San Mateo Police Department received a report from a victim who had hired a roofing company to repair his mother’s house. The victim was initially offered a “free” roof inspection, but soon after, the company claimed that minor repairs were needed. However, as time passed, the company continued to inflate costs by suggesting additional work and ultimately pushing for a complete roof replacement.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects were using aliases and operating under a different fake company name, “Teco Roofing and Masonry.” The following day, the police apprehended the three individuals involved in the roofing scam, identified as Charlie Anderson (22), David Anderson (39), and Darren Temple (40), all residents of Virginia.

Charges and Legal Action

Following their arrest, the three suspects were booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges including theft from an elder or dependent adult, obtaining money by false pretences, fraudulent use of a false contractor’s license, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The San Mateo Police Department continues to investigate these crimes and urges any additional victims to come forward.

Appeal for Information

The San Mateo Police Department is actively seeking information from individuals who may have had roofing construction work done by either “Statewide Roofing and Siding” or “Teco Roofing and Masonry.” Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact Officer Thornburg at the San Mateo Police Department to assist in the ongoing investigation.

By bringing these individuals to justice, the San Mateo Police Department aims to protect vulnerable members of the community from falling victim to such fraudulent schemes in the future.
