Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a heartbreaking incident in the Jhelum near Malakwal Town of Mandi Bahauddin district, six members of a family, including two women and four children, lost their lives on Thursday. The tragedy unfolded when the family’s car was being transported on a boat to cross the river from Pind Daden Khan to Malakwal’s Noorpur Heeran village.

Tragedy struck as the boat lost its balance in the water, causing it to capsize and subsequently leading to the car plunging into the river. The six unfortunate victims, all from the same family, were identified as Azmat Bibi, Shahnaz Bibi, six-year-old Ghayur Abbas, Shehroz Abbas, Shaheer Abbas (8), and Raana (2).

The swift response from rescue teams saw the bodies of the deceased recovered from the river and transported to Malakwal Tehsil Headquarters hospital. Plans are underway by the local administration to send the bodies to their native village Peera Wala, Jhelum district, for burial.

CM Maryam Nawaz Takes Notice and Announces Compensation

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed her concern over the tragic incident and promptly directed the Mandi Bahauddin deputy commissioner to visit the Malakwal THQ hospital. In a bid to provide support to the grieving families, the CM announced a financial compensation of Rs6 million, with Rs1 million allocated to each deceased individual. The distribution of cheques to the heirs will be carried out soon.

The residents of Malakwal and Pind Daden Khan have been advocating for the construction of a bridge over the Jhelum to establish a direct road link between the two towns. Currently, the absence of a road connection forces residents to rely on boats for transportation, despite the presence of a railway track that only sees two train services per day.

Fraudulent Activities Uncovered: Fake Magistrate Arrested

In a separate development, the local administration in Gujrat apprehended a fake magistrate associated with the consumer protection council (CPC) following the registration of a fraud case against him. The suspect, identified as Muhammd Asif from Gegian village, would deceive local traders by posing as a representative of the CPC and extorting money.

Hotelier Shafiqur Rehman raised the alarm after the fake magistrate demanded Rs40,000 in fines. Gujrat AC Bilal Zubair, accompanied by his team and the police, swiftly acted on the complaint and arrested Asif. Additional complaints from other traders led to the registration of a case against Asif under sections 419 and 420 of the PPC by the Civil Lines police.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures and infrastructure development in ensuring the well-being of communities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by this devastating loss.
