Meerut: A special Pocso court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a 35-year-old man for the gruesome crime of kidnapping, raping, and murdering a 4-year-old girl in 2019. The court deemed the crime to be of the “rarest of the rare” category.
The heart-wrenching incident took place on July 26, 2019, when the victim’s mother discovered that her daughter was missing from their relative’s house in a village under the Pahasu area in Bulandshahr. The mother immediately alerted the authorities, leading to a frantic search for the young girl.
During the investigation, suspicion fell on a man from the neighborhood identified as Saurabh Kumar, aged 35, who was subsequently arrested. According to special public prosecutor Mahesh Raghav, the accused confessed to the heinous crime and was remanded to judicial custody. The child’s lifeless body was discovered based on the information provided by the perpetrator. The grieving mother also testified as a witness in court.
Special judge Tarun Kumar Singh remarked that the prosecution’s evidence, including the statements of all witnesses, pointed towards the guilt of the accused beyond any reasonable doubt. The circumstances surrounding the case left no room for doubt regarding the involvement of the defendant in the appalling act.
